How is ranking determined?

Points are awarded for all applicable divisions in GAV tournaments. The number of points awarded is determined by combining the Base Point Scale with the Team Participation Multiplier. 

Your ranking points are determined by adding your top 4 finishes over the last 365 days. 

When is ranking used?

Ranking is used for:

(1) Seeding for tournaments: Players with higher rank (i.e., more GAV points) will be ranked higher for tournament seeding. Seeding determines schedules during pool play. 

(2) Payout from the GAV $20,000 Bonus Pool: Top finishers within their division across the summer tournament season will receive cash/merchandise prizes according to their rank.

Do points earned toward ranking count across divisions?

Yes and no. 

(1) Women's, Men's, and Coed events have separate point systems. Points earned in Women's/Men's events have no impact on ranking in Coed events, and vice versa. 

(2) Points across different divisions within the same event type count toward seeding for tournaments. For example, points earned playing Men's regardless of level (i.e., Open, AA, A, B) count toward seeding for any future GAV Men's tourney. A player who has previously earned points competing in Men's B will be seeded in Men's A according to the total number of Men's points earned previously. 

(3) Points across divisions within the same event type do not count toward rank for the Bonus Pool. For example, players that have competed in both A and B Women's divisions will have separate point totals for each level in the Bonus Pool. Their ranking for the Bonus Pool Women's A division will only include points earned playing Women's A. This ensures that higher level players can't compete in a lower division tournament and suddenly become the highest ranked finisher for that level for the season!
